Discover Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy is an emerging healthcare profession grounded in yogic techniques and philosophy, offering a client-centred and evidence-informed approach to health and well-being. It recognises the intrinsic interconnectedness of all aspects of being, understanding that restoring balance in one area fosters harmony in the whole.

If you’re new to yoga therapy, you’re not alone. This page is designed to help you understand what it is, how it may support mental health, and where to begin, with a free guided session.

What is yoga therapy?

A practice in which traditional yogic concepts and techniques are integrated with Western medical and psychological knowledge to alleviate physical and mental health conditions, promote self-care and improve overall wellbeing. It takes a holistic, person-centred approach, that also considers the body, breath, mind, behaviour, and sense of meaning as interconnected aspects of health.

How is it different from a yoga class?

A Yoga Class typically includes a teacher who presents a collection of practices, often delivered to students within the broader context of yoga philosophy. Yoga therapy sessions are client-centred and require a thorough intake form, to be discussed between client and therapist and/or therapist and individual members of a small group, prior to initiating treatment.

Begin with a Free Guided Yoga Therapy Session

Access a FREE Yoga Therapy Session with The Minded Institute’s founder Heather Mason.

This session focuses on working with the breath to support anxiety and nervous system regulation.

When you slow your breathing, exhaling in particular, your body begins to shift. Signals are sent from the brain to the heart, gently slowing heart rate and activating the part of the nervous system responsible for rest and recovery.

  • Find a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted.
  • You must be able to sit an lie down comfortably, either on a yoga mat or comfortable rug.
  • Allow yourself to follow the guidance at your own pace.
This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
