Why Yoga Therapy?

At The Minded Institute, we draw on the teachings of TKV Desikachar to describe yoga therapy as:

“A self-empowering process, where the care-seeker, with the help of the Yoga therapist, implements a personalised and evolving Yoga practice… addressing illness in a multi-dimensional manner…”

Yoga therapy goes far beyond physical movement. By integrating breath, body, and awareness, it helps regulate the nervous system and promote healing on emotional, cognitive, and physiological levels.

Evidence increasingly supports its role in reducing anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm, making it a valuable addition to both personal well-being and mental health care. For more on anxiety and its symptoms, see the NHS overview on anxiety, or the National Institute of Mental Health’s.
