In 2022, The Minded Institute forged an important partnership with PTSD UK, the UK’s only charity dedicated to raising awareness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Much like the story of our founder, Heather Mason, whose own journey through C-PTSD tilled the soil from which The Minded Institute grew, PTSD UK was founded in 2015 by Jacqui Suttie after her own experiences suffering with PTSD.
For Jacqui, lack of understanding, provisions and information available made her realise that support and education is sorely needed for those struggling with PTSD–along with their friends and family. As a result, PTSD UK was created not only to provide resources and tools to inspire empowerment and resilience in those affected by PTSD & C-PTSD, but also to campaign and raise awareness of the condition, reach out to high-risk communities and help shape UK healthcare policies.
Heather’s personal journey led to a deeply embodied understanding of how yoga and mindfulness can help those with PTSD, and provided a strong motivation to share this knowledge with the world. Heather was the first person in the UK to undertake trauma sensitive yoga training with the Boston Trauma Centre, and has since undergone extensive training in both the relationship between yoga and the brain and trauma and the brain. Her hybrid wealth of knowledge in these fields has cultivated a unique take on how yoga therapy can influence trauma from a neuroscientific perspective, distilled into an in-depth professional training in Yoga Therapy for PTSD.
It is precisely this shared, lived experience of trauma that makes our collaboration so powerful, and we have high hopes that the years to come will bring even more exciting news in this sphere. If you have ideas as to how Minded and PTSD UK can help raise national awareness of the value yoga and yoga therapy, please write to marketing@themindedinstitute.com and let us know.
