Description

Finding Stability Through Chair Yoga

This four-week chair yoga course offers an accessible journey through movement, breath and mindful awareness. Together, these practices can help us explore how the body and nervous system respond to stress, challenge and recovery, while developing practical ways to support greater ease and self-connection.

In a world that can often feel demanding, cultivating a sense of stability within ourselves can provide a valuable foundation for wellbeing.

Chair yoga is sometimes understood simply as a gentler or modified version of mat-based yoga. The Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga Method approaches it as a rich and complete practice in its own right: one that can be adapted to the person, rather than asking the person to adapt themselves to a fixed form of yoga.

Using the support of a chair creates opportunities to explore posture, breathing, strength, movement and stillness in ways that are accessible across a wide range of experience and mobility.

A Four-Week Chair Yoga Course That Builds Over Time

Finding Stability is designed as a cumulative four-week journey. Each session introduces a particular theme while developing practices explored during the previous weeks.

Rather than encountering four unrelated chair yoga classes, you will be supported to gradually build familiarity, confidence and awareness. Simple suggestions for home practice will be offered between sessions, allowing you to revisit what you have learned and begin integrating it into everyday life.

You are welcome to attend the workshops live, follow the full course through the recordings, or combine the two. Recordings of all four workshops will remain available to you for life.

Week One: Grounding

Explore the foundations of stability through connection with the chair, awareness of the body and practices that support a sense of steadiness.

We will begin developing skills for settling attention, noticing physical support and connecting with the present moment.

Week Two: Breathing Space

Discover how breath, movement and mindful pauses can help regulate energy and attention.

This session explores accessible practices that encourage balance, responsiveness and a greater sense of ease.

Week Three: Cultivating Resilience

Through a blend of strengthening and restorative practices, we will explore the relationship between effort and ease.

The session invites you to develop adaptability, confidence and trust in your body’s capacity to respond to change.

Week Four: Bringing It Together

Drawing together the central elements of the course, we will explore how movement, breath and awareness can be woven into a sustainable personal practice.

The final session will help you identify practices that can continue to support your wellbeing beyond the four weeks.

Who Is This Chair Yoga Course For?

This course is suitable for anyone interested in exploring chair yoga as an accessible approach to movement, self-awareness and wellbeing.

It may be particularly valuable for:

  • People who find getting down to or up from the floor difficult
  • Those looking for a practice that can be adapted around their mobility, energy or circumstances
  • People interested in nervous system regulation, stress management or recovery from overwhelm
  • Those wishing to develop a more compassionate relationship with their body
  • People completely new to yoga or chair yoga
  • Experienced yoga practitioners interested in exploring a different form of practice
  • Yoga teachers, healthcare professionals and carers curious about accessible chair yoga
  • Anyone considering further study in the Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga Method

The course is also an ideal follow-on for those who attended the PTSD UK webinar, Finding Stability: Chair Yoga for Trauma and Wellbeing, although attendance at that webinar is not required.

All practices are chair-based and adaptable. You will be encouraged to work in a way that respects your own body and circumstances.

No previous yoga experience is necessary.

What You Will Need

  • A stable chair, without wheels if possible
  • Comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily
  • Enough space around your chair to move comfortably
  • Optional: a cushion and blanket for additional comfort
  • A device with an internet connection if attending live through Zoom

Live Attendance and Lifetime Access

The workshops take place live online on four consecutive Tuesday evenings:

  • Tuesday, 8th September 2026
  • Tuesday, 15th September 2026
  • Tuesday, 22nd September 2026
  • Tuesday, 29th September 2026

Each workshop runs from 7pm to 8pm UK time, followed by an optional period for questions and discussion.

The hour-long teaching and practice portion of every session will be recorded and uploaded to the course area. The Q&A will not be recorded, helping to protect the privacy of participants.

You do not need to attend live to take part. The complete chair yoga course can be followed through the recordings, and your purchase includes lifetime access so that you can revisit the practices whenever you wish.

Continue Your Chair Yoga Journey

Finding Stability is designed as a complete, standalone personal practice course. You do not need to intend to teach chair yoga or continue into further study.

However, if the series inspires you to explore chair yoga professionally, Liz also teaches Part 1 of The Minded Institute’s Accessible Chair Yoga CPD pathway: Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga Teacher Training.

Part 1 provides structured professional training for those who want to develop the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to teach accessible chair yoga across different communities and settings.

The four-week Finding Stability course is not a prerequisite for Part 1, but it offers an opportunity to experience Liz’s teaching and the Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga Method through your own practice before deciding whether you would like to take your learning further.
