Description

Yoga Therapy for Menopause: CPD Training for Yoga and Health Professionals

Join Lindsey Brown for a transformative day of learning how yoga therapy can empower women during menopause. This one-day course provides practical tools and evidence-based techniques to support women through this significant life transition. By blending modern science with the wisdom of yoga therapy, you will discover how to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges of menopause, fostering balance, resilience, and empowerment.

Yoga therapy is increasingly recognised as a powerful approach for supporting menopausal women, offering solutions for symptoms such as hot flushes, mood swings, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. Backed by scientific research, yoga therapy regulates the nervous system, balances hormones, and helps women navigate this transformative stage with greater ease and well-being.

This recognition comes at a pivotal moment. Menopause, long dismissed as a taboo subject, is finally entering the spotlight, thanks to advocates challenging outdated stigmas and fostering open dialogue. Yoga therapy is at the forefront of this shift, offering a holistic and empowering framework that allows women to embrace menopause as an opportunity for growth, transformation, and reconnection with their inner strength.

Why Yoga Therapy for Menopause

Menopause affects every system of the body. Changes in hormones such as oestrogen, progesterone, and cortisol can influence temperature regulation, mood, sleep, and cognition. While medical interventions can be helpful, they often address symptoms rather than the whole experience.

Yoga therapy for menopause offers a holistic, personalised framework that works on physical, energetic, mental, and emotional levels. Through movement, breath, mindfulness, and relaxation, yoga therapy supports hormonal balance, nervous system regulation, and a deeper sense of self-connection. It empowers women to see menopause not as a loss, but as a time of renewal and growth.

What You Will Learn

By the end of this one-day training, you will have:

Developed an in-depth understanding of:

  • The stages of menopause and the key changes that occur at each phase.

  • The role of sex hormones in menopausal symptoms and their effects on the mind and body during perimenopause and postmenopause.

  • The connection between sex hormones, associated health risks, and common comorbidities.

  • The importance of regulating hormones such as cortisol and oxytocin to support a balanced and mindful menopausal transition.

Acquired practical tools to:

  • Apply the kosha model to guide women through menopause safely and confidently, offering an empowering and spiritual perspective.

    • The kosha model is a framework that describes the layers of human experience, often referred to as the ‘five sheaths’ or ‘bodies’. Each layer represents a different aspect of the human body: physical, energetic, mental, wisdom and bliss. It offers a multifactorial assessment by considering how menopause presents in each of the layers and how supporting one layer can have a positive ripple effect across the others.

  • Teach postures and movements that address the specific needs of menopausal women, including strength training and pelvic floor awareness.

  • Integrate pranayama and mindfulness practices to alleviate symptoms and promote overall well-being.

  • Deliver deeply restorative practices such as yoga nidra and restorative yoga to support rest and rejuvenation.

  • Create a safe, nurturing, and calming environment for women navigating menopause.

This CPD training is suitable for:

  • Yoga teachers and yoga therapists

Since graduating from Minded in February 2023, Lindsey has completed further training in Yoga for Cancer and, more recently, Conscious Connected Breathing. Lindsey feels passionately about menopause and cancer and recognises that they often go hand in hand. She teaches once a month at Future Dreams House, a breast cancer charity, where she runs sessions on various themes, including menopause and the koshas, and how yoga therapy can support cancer patients.
