Precautions for yoga practice are necessary in cancer patients

“Recommending yoga without clear knowledge of the bone status of cancer patients can lead to severe injuries”.

It is important that cancer patients with bone metastasis are thoroughly evaluated for risk of fractures, skeletal related events (SREs) and how yoga positions (or another form of exercise) could impact the musculoskeletal system – most specifically the spine and the thoracic spine – before beginning a exercise programme.

Bone metastases are commonly found in prostate cancer, breast cancer, kidney cancer, thyroid cancer, lung cancer and multiple myeloma.
