Natasza Biernacka, a current student of the Minded Institute, is undertaking a doctorate in counselling published research relevant to yoga therapy. Biernacka’s publication in PLOS Mental Health explores the use of physical exercise for the treatment of PTSD and complex-PTSD. Using qualitative methods, she gleaned valuable insights on exercise in the treatment of c-PTSD and PTSD from 12 trauma clinicians from across the UK.
Findings pointed to the value of a tailored approach to treatment, how exercise could enhance treatment, and the key barriers to its inclusion in treatment. As yoga includes exercise/asana, this paper offers insight into what is needed for yoga to enter healthcare, the barriers that might be faced, and once we understand these obstacles, we can consider how to surmount them.
