Therapeutic Yoga in Cancer Treatment
“I really enjoyed this training course which was truly interesting and informative. Julie presented the information brilliantly and I found that I was constantly engaged and ready to learn more. The balance of theory and practical work was perfect. Julie even managed to weave in some theory whilst we were practicing yoga postures, such skill! Julie was the perfect trainer as she has such a wealth of experience in the healthcare field as well as a friendly manner and understanding nature. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone wanting to pursue a career helping to support those living with cancer using yoga as a tool for therapy.”

“This has been an amazing course. It wasn’t just a course, it was a sharing of knowledge, understanding and nurture. I feel completely ready to navigate my way through to reaching out to help anybody who has been effected by cancer. Our tutor Julie was just fantastic. She has the most empathetic approach to the subject and because of that the delivery landed well for everyone.”

Yoga Therapy for Anxiety
“Thank you again to Heather for an truly inspiring course! I learnt so much over the 5 days of the course; with a mix of lectures, practice, pair-working, it felt like a really enjoyable (and effective!) way to learn.
There was lots of time for reflection and questions, and even in Zoom Heather helped us all build a lovely, supportive sangha.
I found the course and what we learnt quite life-changing on a personal level, and have learnt so many things that I know will really support me and my own mental health. I cannot wait to embody and explore what we learnt, bringing it into both my personal practice and into my teaching.
Thank you again Heather for a wonderfully supportive and enriching learning experience – I really hope to study with you again soon!“

Yoga Therapy and Mindfulness for Chronic Pain
“This was a fantastic course. It felt really personal due to the small number in the group and Raquel was warm, open and enthusiastic and consequently the atmosphere was relaxed and collaborative. She delivered the content in a clear organised way and made sure that everyone understood by having regular re-caps and bringing in real examples from her many years of experience in this area. The resources she has offered as a take-away are comprehensive and user friendly and will be really useful in my work. It was a privilege to be part of this course. A huge thank-you to Racquel, and Minded for organising it.“

“I am very grateful to Heather and her team for putting together such an enlightening and empowering program. Heather makes neuroscience seem almost easy and integrates these understandings into yoga practice to demonstrate how powerful yoga can be as an intervention for anxiety. I feel that I have learned so much on a professional and personal level. I also took part in the class with my daughter and learned an enormous amount about our relationship with anxiety and with each other. “

Introduction to Therapeutic Yoga in Cancer Treatment
“Julie delivered a really informative introductory day to yoga therapy for cancer . She is passionate about this, with a medical background. It was evident she has a huge background knowledge of this and keeps updating. The course although intense was well balanced with breaks and small activities to reflect upon. I also enjoyed Julie’s lovely approach to teaching yoga – find your breath etc “

“A fascinating online day led by Julie Robinson who has a wonderful down-to-earth approach. Trauma Sensitive Yoga Skills
“Jam packed with valuable and interesting information. I was grateful to have received the basic presentation slides a few hours before the presentation itself. I was able to scan through these then know that I could concentrate on the presentation without being distracted to make too many written notes. The presented content was relatable and relevant to my class and 1:1 teaching experience and will be of value as I progress through my Yoga Therapy Course. The content also provided some person insight in relation to my own PTSD. It might enable me to feel more self compassion at times of triggering and risk of overwhelm. (We can expect too much of ourselves as yoga teachers sometimes)“

“Both Julie & Bryony are like fountains of knowledge and share their vast experience of Therapeutic Yoga in Cancer Treatment with passion and care. For me, I loved the many facets of yoga that we explored and experienced and how to use them in a practical therapeutic setting. Much of my learning came from the many discussions within the group, which were so well facilitated by both Julie and Bryony. I feel that I am well equipped to continue to explore this field and know I’ll be busy with the well researched reading list for a while. Thank you both.“

Yoga Therapy for Anxiety
“This was a really interesting 4 hours. I was drawn to it as someone who has some experience of anxiety and always looking for ways to understand it better and tools for managing it. I already know yoga is one of the best! Also possibly to run a class for students where I work, as there are so many people experiencing anxiety, particularly at the present time. It was good to get a feel for the research around the ideas. I enjoyed trying out some of the techniques on the day and have introduced some of these into a regular class. As most of us experience anxiety at some point, the concepts are useful for everyone I think. I would recommend this course.“
Yoga Teacher, September 2020
Yoga Nidra for Mental Health
“Wow. Absolutely loved this training thank you Shaura. It blew my mind and I had to take time just to sit with it and let it slowly absorb. I love Nidra and was keen to understand it deeper and how I can hold space for a variety of groups that may be struggling and this course has really helped this and the material was fab. Will be looking forward to Level 2!“

Yoga Therapy for Chronic Neck Pain
“Best CPD course I’ve been on for a while, F2F or on Zoom or otherwise. Sylvia is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic presenter and the fours hours flew by with us all wanting more. The only thing I would say is that it would have been better to have been able to go through some of the ideas for practise more slowly; possibly fewer things but in more depth with a chance to do and reflect. Or even to experience an example of a ‘yoga for healthy necks’ yoga class ourselves. Thank you, I hope to work with you again as I thoroughly enjoyed it.“

“This was a great course! Sat Bir Khalsa delivered the content in a very clear way. I really enjoyed the fact that this course was delivered live and that we were able to ask questions at the end. Having access to the powerpoint presentation is really good so that I can look again at the information and do some more research on some of the topics.
It would be amazing to have access to the recording of the session as well.“

“The course was absolutely amazing. The contend was so interesting and so well and clearly exposed that the 3h just flew away. The Zoom format is just perfect. It’s one good thing the covid-19 brought. I could attend cutting edge information from Harvard expert Dr. Sat Bir Singh Khalsa from my home in Barcelona. I want to take this opportunity to thank The Minded institute for the effort and outstanding job in making all of this possible.“
Mireia – Yoga Therapist, July 2020
Understanding the Biomedical Research and Science Behind Yoga
“I loved this lecture. SOOOOOOOOOOO much amazing information it was exactly what I was looking for. I’ve recently recovered from years of chronic pain, using only emotional work and yoga, and subsequently published a website about my story mytmsjourney.com I had a goal in mind when I was in recovery that I would do YTT afterwards, which I did in March. I want to combine yoga with what I learned and experienced about settling the nervous system, and how stress and mental health causes chronic pain and how it CAN be cured with this work – I’m living proof of that. THIS WAS THE IDEAL COURSE FOR THIS!! Thank you, this is going to give me the research and science evidence background to promote this work to a much wider audience than with just promoting yoga alone and help so many people. THANK YOU!“
Dani – Chronic Pain Therapy Coach, July 2020
Trauma Sensitive Yoga Skills

Very informative, explained very well and just confirmed to me this is the direction I’d like to take my teaching. Overall a brilliant course and left me wanting more!“

Professional Yoga Skills for Working with Depression
“The course gave a comprehensive scientific explanation for depression and then developed practices and strategies to support people with depression. I found that it opened up the whole understanding of depression and the combination of anxiety/depression. I have more of an understanding how best to help me in my classes and how to construct sequences which gives me greater confidence in my teaching. I now have loads of ideas to play around with in my own practice and to develop my own skills as a teacher. Thank you very much.“

Rewiring the Anxious Brain through Yoga, CPD: Yoga Therapy for Anxiety, CPD: Yoga Therapy for Depression
“All courses I have done with you so far were profitable, enriching and deeply inspiring for me. I like the fact that Heather structures her classes so clearly and always moves from theory to practice. This results for me in a feeling that I can start my own practice and also my work as a yoga teacher from a place of “sound knowledge”. After years of struggling with my personal approach to yoga, thanks to The Minded Institute I have found a new, scientific approach to yoga which I am truly grateful for.
After this third course with Heather, I feel increasingly confident both for my own practice in stress and anxiety and for my work as a yoga teacher in this field. Nevertheless, I would be very interested in learning the tools for teaching the specific 8-week course. I am curious if Heather decides to offer the course. For now, I’m looking forward to the Yoga Nidra course next week.“

Yoga Therapy Training in Pranayama Part 2
“I loved the Part 2 of this training! Heather is so knowledgeable and obviously passionate about what she does. Her easy delivery of content and clear explanations where once again brilliant. I was very impressed how she balanced her explanations with also taking questions from attendees. Heather makes breathing a subject I want to learn more about! The practice was great and just enough plus she gave us another 15 minutes at the end to try another technique, great. Looking forward to her next online courses!“
Anna – Yoga Teacher, June 2020
Rewiring the Anxious Brain Through Yoga
“I found the lecture fascinating and relevant to the practice of Yoga. I have been looking for this type of ‘connect’ and haven’t been able to afford the time or money to attend any of the courses in London. This 2-hour lecture, although packed full of information, was insightful for me to a) follow up with my own research and b) to try the practices out with my online classes. It was just the right amount of information. I was so glad you sent out the handouts prior so that I could become familiar with the content. Heather made it relaxing so I could absorb the information easily and it flew by so fast. I am keen to learn more! Thank you for such a blessing!“
Dawn – Yoga Teacher/Therapist, June 2020
Rewiring the Anxious Brain Through Yoga

Hollie – Yoga Teacher, June 2020
Rewiring the Anxious Brain Through Yoga
“A thoroughly enjoyable and fascinating course outlining how anxiety can be positively impacted through yoga. Throughout the course Heather referenced evidence based research to highlight key findings and the links to yoga. She offered a nice balance of theory and practical solutions that as a teacher I can offer my students. I particularly liked how Heather can explain complex brain science, making it more easily understandable for the learner. I’d definitely recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in this area. “

Trauma Sensitive Yoga Skills
“I thought the course content was excellent and really informative. I believe in honest feedback so with respect, I found that there was a lot of information being delivered from the text on the slides, some of the subjects were new to me so I found it slightly challenging to keep up, however, with respect and as a suggestion maybe break up the words with more videos, discussions or other visuals. Personally I would prefer to elongate the course to make sure I took in all of the valuable information. That been said I loved it and it really sparked my interest to want to learn more. Heather is amazing and I would love to learn more from her experience. I am definitely interested in the 5-day course. “
Rob – Serving Military Transitioning to Yoga Teacher, June 2020

“This course provided information that I will immediately incorporate into my work as a yoga therapist who works with inpatients in rehab at an addiction facility. In presenting the authoritative science and experience-based instruction, Heather Mason models a steady, calming, confident presence that, in my view, is optimal in addressing clients and patients with trauma. “

Trauma Sensitive Yoga Skills
“Firstly I would like to say thank you. The course was really useful in consolidating things that i already knew and had a sense of and also more importantly in providing me with further insight and knowledge regarding best practice and the science behind it all. It will help with my understanding of the people I work with and how I work with them. Being provided with the power point slides is great as it helped me double check things I might have missed and also to be able to check references to the research. I enjoyed the sense of community created by Heather and the other participants – so important during these strange times.“
Rebecca – Wellbeing Worker Oxfordshire Mind, June 2020
Trauma Sensitive Yoga Skills
“I’ve been following Heather’s teaching since 2018 where I enrolled for the Yoga Therapy for anxiety course, I decided to take the Trauma sensitive introduction day with Heather because I find Her knowledge and passion for yoga and science and the way She can present it, so incredible and in such humble way. I find the amount of informations given at the courses very usuful when it comes to researches, studies and facts, at the same time because I’m not very accademic I feel a bit overwhelmed with informations, where I seem to be more visual and learn faster in an interactive way, so I really enjoy when I can put into practice all the Informations and exercises that Heather provides. Never the less I love Heather ethics and approach in Her teaching, I find it very clear and insightful. Love and Light. Sonia“
Sonia – Yoga Teacher, May 2020
Mental Health Skills for Yoga Teachers
“I got a lot from the course but found it to be too much of a lecture and found it really hard to sit and focus without doing something for that long. Heather was great and incredibly knowledgeable but less research and more emphasis on practice would have suited me better. Am looking at other courses to do now though so am very pleased to have attended and want to learn more “

Mental Health Skills for Yoga Teachers
“This was a fascinating course with loads of information about WHY yoga works for students with mental health issues. I learned lots (even though some of the science went over my head). It is so important to have facts to back up the benefits of yoga, but perhaps there was a little too much detail on each of the research studies mentioned in the first half of the course. I found myself getting caught up in this rather than WHAT the studies proved yoga was good for and what that meant in layman’s terms. Eg rather that “Rotterdam Study” and all the details of it” it could be bullet pointed as “Benefits of yoga proven by research studies: “Smaller right amygdala volume. Mental health problems are associated with having a large right amygdala (the left amygdala reflects the ability to empathise with others pain)” [1]. “Increased GABA levels” – GABA levels are known to be low in people with depression… and PTSD” [2] The title, names of scientists and details of each study could then have been given as an appendix to the notes with the other references e.g. [1] The Rotterdam study. Meditation and yoga… Gotink et al (2018) [2] Yoga Asana Sessions Increase Brain GABA levels: A Pilot Study. Streeter CC,… (2007) I found the Vagus Nerve fascinating and could have done a few hours on this alone! The afternoon was far more about how the research findings apply to a face to face yoga class and this is really what I wanted to learn about. This was excellent. Very clear and practical ways to be mindful when teaching yoga. I loved the afternoon session and wish it could have been longer in relation to the first half. We did a bit of coherent breathing which was great. Perhaps another 10-15 mins of practice of some kind would have been beneficial too and would have broken up the note taking. It would be helpful if the slides and the notes were a little easier to match up. A couple of times I started writing notes only to realise they were already there a little further down. (minor point). I found the slides with images on really helped me to understand what Heather was talking about (I miss them when reading over my notes now). Perhaps a reference to these would be helpful to those like me who don’t have very good biology skills or at least one diagram of the brain to refer back to and make notes on? I do not wish to become a fully qualified Yoga Therapist, but would love to do something like a one or two week online course (or a couple of days at a time over several weeks/months maybe) about Yoga for Mental Health only.“

Yoga Therapy for Anxiety: Professional CPD
“This course has given me the confidence to plan the next steps in my career progression. Heather provided a solid scientific foundation to apply practical skills. The course was lead via a teleconferencing application yet still allowed us to break out into small groups to practice our skills with other students. Heather backed up her teaching with personal experience, which I found invaluable. The Minded Institute is well organised and professional and this shines through from the first contact through to the last. “

Yoga Therapy for Anxiety: Professional CPD
“Thank you so much to Heather for delivering this training on line. When initially booking I was a little apprehensive and yes “Anxious” at the thought of sitting in front of my lap top for 5 days. I emailed Heather prior to the course with a couple of questions and she took the time to phone me and discuss these queries with me which was very reassuring. The way in which Heather delivered the course, the interaction, engagement, sharing of information and exercises within the break away rooms felt very natural and an excellent learning environment. The course was informative and enjoyable. Pre course information was emailed in advance of the course which was very helpful with any queries answered quickly. I would definitely return for further training and I would have no hesitation in recommending The Minded Institute.“

Introduction to Yoga as Therapy for Low back Pain
“This daytime 4 hour introduction by Sylvia was extremely informative. Sylvia has a very warm manner which comes across well on screen. She is very experienced and knowledgeable and was able to describe ways to use yoga (where appropriate) for anyone with back issues in an accessible manner. The follow up notes were very extensive, so much so I have downloaded mine to my kindle so that I am able to read them thoroughly and refer to them where necessary. Thank you so much. “

How to Apply Therapeutic Breath Practices to Different Health Needs: Yoga Therapy Training in Pranayama
“Very much enjoyed it. I found it difficult at times to keep up with the lecture and try and make notes, but this did keep me on my toes. There were one or two slides that I would have liked including in the handouts so I could go back and look over again. However, I generally like the idea that the handout is different from the slides presented, as this maintains interest. I was nervous about doing the practical breath assessment in a break out room with a partner. But then I ended up enjoying this and there was nothing to be nervous about. “

How to Apply Therapeutic Breath Practices to Different Health Needs: Yoga Therapy Training in Pranayama
“Heather has an incredible amount of knowledge on the subject and I enjoyed learning from her. I liked the scientific elements combined with the practical application into a breakout room with another attendee. This allowed us to practice in a more similar context as if we were working with a client. It also showed some of the challenges about working remotely with clients, however, challenges could bring new opportunities! “
Anna – Yoga Teacher, May 2020
Professional Seminar: Trauma Yoga and Neuroplasticity
“Fantastic course which provided a lot of background into the effects of trauma from a neurological perspective and how yoga can be used as a tool to aid recovery from PTSD. I would be concerned if I did not have the scientific background that I have, that it may be difficult to follow, therefore not a course for someone with NO neuroscience prerequisite. “
Angela – Biomedical Scientist & Yoga Teacher, May 2020
Professional Seminar: Trauma Yoga and Neuroplasticity
“Really interesting to gain deeper understanding of PTSD and a trauma informed approach to yoga. Having experienced the benefits of yoga to undo a cycle of PTSD it was interesting to learn the science and whys behind the profound benefits. A reflection for my own practice and approaches when teaching yoga also. The seminar drew together pieces of previous understanding and added to this knowledge base (offering key research and practical experience of yoga in action) focusing on yoga’s value as a treatment method supported by research. The seminar drew together snippets of understanding together for me and introduced a new body of information to visit. It has made me want to explore yoga therapy further. This was my first experience of a professional training with the Minded Institute I will definitely consider taking further training/courses in the future. Thank you.“

“Silvia is a wonderful teacher. Her enthusiasm and passion come shining through in every breath. She is SO knowledgeable and wants to transfer all of that knowledge to us. I can definitely use some of the tools she gave us right away, in my teaching and in my own yoga practice. I know she is not a fan of PowerPoint, but every now and then, it would be nice to have something to follow along with. The handout we received afterwards is great though. I would definitely take another class with Silvia. Thanks! “

Introduction to Yoga as Therapy for Low back Pain
“I was unsure of 4 hrs on zoom but the time passed quickly. Very informative, delivered in an intimate, easily accessible, humorous inclusive friendly manner. I liked the Breakout room- it worked well and created a bit of bonding with the group. I appreciate the handout for revision, information and teaching points. “

Introduction to Yoga as Therapy for Low back Pain
“Really enjoyed this course with Silvia Laurenti. I’ve just completed my 200 hour teacher training which Silvia also taught on. Love her enthusiasm and ability to make learning fun. I’m very interested in working with clients with back pain which I come across regularly through my massage practice. The course has given me the confidence to work with these clients. “

Trauma Sensitive Yoga Skills
“The online courses provided by The Minded Institute have really changed the experience of lockdown for me. I’ve been able to use this time to learn so much from such highly qualified and experienced teachers. It has also opened my mind to all the research that is being done on the benefits of yoga and the science behind this. “
