In January this year, scientists published a scoping review (a host of studies) of yoga’s value in sexual health, and revealed that yoga may help in the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) and Premature Ejaculation (PE).
Yoga for erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation
As concerns mount over the long-term impacts of conventional treatments for ED and PE, these researchers embarked on meticulously review of 30 studies from 2000 to 2023.
One study in particular involved 65 males who participated in dedicated yoga sessions for 12 weeks. After the sessions, significant improvement was observed in their Male Sexual Quotient (MSQ) scores, i.e. improvement in intercourse satisfaction, ejaculation control, and erection quality. This not only validates the practical benefits of yoga in addressing sexual dysfunctions but also highlights the overall impact of yoga on various aspects of sexual well-being.
Researchers hypothesised that these benefits may result from increased blood circulation to the pelvis via yoga, the strengthening of the pelvic and perineal regions, reduced stress, improved prostate secretion, and pelvic awareness.
While these findings underscore the promise of yoga in sexual health, researchers are advocating for further robust studies to deepen our current understanding and do not want men to see yoga as a panacea.
At The Minded Institute, we advocate for yoga in healthcare for a variety of conditions. This may just be another avenue where men with ED or PE can test yoga for themselves. If they find a positive change, they could then reach out to specialist in the field of sexual health. If you identify as a man, spread awareness with your fellow men of the natural ways to support the 16.5 million men experiencing ED in the UK, according to a study by Pharmacy Direct GB as of 2021.
