Observation: Yoga Therapy for Menopause

We are pleased to welcome the renowned yoga therapist Dr Uma Dinsmore-Tuli to offer a yoga therapy session for working with menopause.

Uma met yoga in 1969, at the age of four, and fell in love. She’s been practicing ever since, and teaching yoga since 1994. Since 1998, Dr Uma Dinsmore-Tuli has been providing yoga therapy to women of all ages, and training yoga therapists to support lifelong female vitality. Her third book Yoni Shakti: A Woman’s Guide to Power and Freedom through Yoga and Tantra (2014) presents a range of effective intuitive, and deeply feminine yoga therapeutic techniques, including co-creative Total Yoga Nidra, cyclical awareness, prana vidya and nutritious, rhythmic movement.

Creativity and Sexuality with Uma and Sivani

For over twenty years Uma has shared these techniques with individuals and groups in all stages of feminine embodiment, including menstruation, menopause, pregnancy, fertility, birth and postnatal recovery. Her annual Online Refuges and in-person retreats offer practical help for menopausal and perimenopausal humans during the challenges of this often vulnerable life stage. Her specialist interest and expertise is in the intersection of yoga therapy with devotional healing arts (including dream decoding and tarot reading) that reconnect individuals to intuition. Recovering intuitive embodied wisdom is at the heart of all healing, and is particularly crucial during menopause.

She is co-founder of the Yoga Nidra Network and has developed Total Yoga Nidra, Wild Nidra, Yoni Nidra and Nidra Shakti: radical creative and intuitive approaches to sharing yoga nidra.

In 2005, Uma co-created the annual Santosa Living Yoga and Bhakti Camp.

Uma’s passion as a writer and as a teacher is to transmit clarity of awareness, creativity and profound vitality. She identifies these teachings as “post-lineage” yoga, rooted in yoga tantra and drawing on a variety of yogic traditions to share deeply nourishing and enlivening practices appropriate for contemporary life.

Her practice and teaching respects the cyclical powers of the living earth, and honours human life cycles as spiritual initiations (including menarche, conscious menstruation, menopause, birth and postnatal recovery).
