Description
Yoga Therapy for Diabetes
Dr. Kaur is one of the foremothers of yoga therapy and one of the most respected yoga therapists worldwide. It is an honour to have Dr. Kaur offer a yoga therapy observation for The Minded Institute. Some of her most notable accomplishments include; serving on the team that developed the IAYT Educational Standards for Yoga Therapy Training, and creating and directing the accredited 1,120-hour Kundalini Yoga Therapy Professional Training. In addition to this, she has specific expertise in working with diabetes and helped design Mind & Movement for Living with Diabetes, a yoga therapy program for people with type 2 diabetes, and their family members. The program features a yogic approach to Diabetes Self-Management, including stress reduction, physical activity, healthy eating, and social support. Mind & Movement for Living with Diabetes, was hosted by Certified Diabetes Educators in 2 hospitals. As part of her experience in the field of diabetes self-care, Dr. Kaur also spent six years focused on community education in the Diabetes Prevention & Control Program with the New Mexico State Department of Health.
In this observation Dr. Kaur will provide unique insight into working with type 2 diabetes through the lens and offerings of Kundalini Yoga. Given that:
- Diabetes is one of the most prevalent health conditions around the world with numbers rapidly increasing
- It presents with a host of comorbidities
- A number of rigorous studies have demonstrated yoga is beneficial in this condition
We believe it is essential that yoga therapists have clear insight as to how to work with this condition. Research and clinical experience has revealed yoga’s promise in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes, of preventing prediabetes from reaching the threshold of diabetes, and improving the symptoms and management of those in all stages of this condition.
What to expect:
- The first hour of the Observation is a live Yoga Therapy session. The client then leaves and the yoga therapist will have an opportunity to speak about their experience, ways of working, and field questions from those observing.
- Participants will watch the live Yoga Therapy observation with their audio and camera off. Once the session is complete and the client leaves, participants are welcome to turn on camera and audio and participate in the Q&A section. Those using the sessions for Minded Institute requirements must have their cameras on.
- Observations are held online via Zoom. Upon booking, you will receive a booking confirmation email with a Zoom link and password to enter the session. If you do not have a Zoom account, please visit zoom.us and register.
