Event Details

This one-day training course is for yoga teachers who want to learn practical skills to help plan and teach yoga classes for clients suffering with depression and anxiety.

Did you know in the UK that 1 in 4 people suffer from depression or anxiety? The practice of yoga is known to be highly beneficial for depression, anxiety and a host of other mental health conditions. More and more people are coming to classes hoping to improve their symptoms, but there are some important considerations and contraindications when dealing with these individuals. It is the responsibility of the teacher to prepare, be aware of, and be sensitive to these considerations.

In this course you will learn:

1. Medical and psychological reasons that yoga is so advantageous for mental health conditions
2. Important yoga research that reveals yoga’s beneficial effects on these conditions
3. Basic pranayama that is best suited to help alleviate depression and anxiety
4. Important sensitivity to bring to all yoga classes, especially as it is likely someone in your class will have a mental health complaint
5. Physiological considerations in sequencing classes to maximise the calming and/or mood-elevating effects of yoga
